The Canberra Law Students’ Society
Statement in response to COVID-19
Friday 19 March 2020
The Canberra Law Students’ Society ('CLSS’) would like to announce that due to the recent developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to postpone and cancel some of our Semester 1 events. In coming to this decision, the CLSS has taken the advice given by the University of Canberra Vice Chancellor and the University of Canberra Club Management Body. Additionally, we have considered the general advice given by the Federal Government.
Please see the following update on the events which have been affected:
Semester 1
Semester 2
We plan on moving our Semester 1 events into Semester 2 whilst keeping the Semester 2 events on board. It should be noted however, that should the COVID-19 pandemic worsen or further impinge on our ability to conduct CLSS matters, we will have to reconsider the viability of running events in Semester 2. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that any of our events will be held during that time.
Moving forward
In times such as these it doesn’t take a lot to get disheartened, which is why it is imperative that we look back at what we’ve already achieved and how far we’ve come and use these memories as strength to move through this difficult time. Looking back to the start of the year we see the great initiatives which the CLSS has already brought to its members. These include: Our first ever ‘Law School Survival Skills Series’ and Competitions Workshops, our Practical Legal Training Information Session with The College of Law and the various publications which we have created.
These events and publications all serve the future which we have in mind for the CLSS. That is, a strong and flourishing future – a future which we will hold onto and continue to pursue even during these times.
As a society, we aim to continue to work diligently and, most importantly, we aim to continue encouraging each other and reminding ourselves of the purpose we serve and the goals which we have set; to be here for not only our members but our community.
Should you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to contact us via our Facebook Messenger on our Facebook Page or alternatively, email me at president.clss@outlook.com
The CLSS thanks every single member for their continuous support and engagement throughout the years.
Kind regards,
Natasha Correia
President
